I have been in love with fabric as long as I can remember! As a young child, I used to create doll clothing from scraps of fabric. My grandmothers were always busy women, always creating or doing something with their hands. Crocheting, embroidery, candlewicking, and a few other crafts here and there. Neither one of them had much patience to teach me to sew, but I loved to watch them. I would sit beside them with my little sewing basket and practice.
I was raised surrounded by quilts and I adore them! I love the idea of taking scraps from one item and creating such a beautiful and funtional piece of art. I started to create patchwork clothing when I came across some old craft books from my local library. I was fascinated with the idea of wearable quilts. I was hooked! When I attended my first folk music festival and my first Grateful Dead show, I was delighted to find a community of others that appreciated patchwork and handcrafted clothing as well. I was home.
Favorite Mediums: Vintage calicos, vintage linens/notions/lace, herbs, bits of well worn quilts that have seen better days. I enjoy finding ways to save and repurpose fabrics.
Favorite Place to find my fabrics: Charity shops or when friends dontate items they no longer use.
I also love visiting Re-Use shops! My favorite is Reconsidred Goods in Greensboro, NC. If you are not familiar with creative re-use centers & you are a crafty human (or you want to be! Everyone has a spark of creativity in them!) , check to see if you have a local one!
